Listen to the podcast interview with Tiger Wells regarding the process for submitting body camera policies.
Law enforcement agencies in South Carolina have until March
7 to submit their policies for the use of
body worn cameras to the state Criminal Justice Academy.
As early as 2014, South
Carolina law enforcement agencies began evaluating the use of body cameras. Legislation passed in 2015 requiring all law enforcement
agencies to develop policies regardless of whether they plan to use the
cameras.
Once an agency’s body camera policy is approved by the
Academy, the agency can apply to the Department of Public
Safety’s Public Safety Coordinating Council for funds to cover the costs of the
roll-out.
